Friday 20th November was Universal Children's Day.
We had so much fun celebrating Children's Day. During the week we talked about the rights of children and designed posters showing our rights. Ms. Fahy said we could celebrate Children's Day by doing lots of fun activities. In the morning we worked together to set up our new role play area, a toy shop. Then we baked banana muffins with Crona and learned about children in other countries with Ms. Fahy. We know that we are very lucky children, we have families and friends who love us, warm houses, clean water, a lovely school and lots of people who care for and protect us. We decided to make bunting showing all of the things we are grateful for.
Later on we did a science experiment "Walking on Air". We blew up eight balloons and put a table on top of them. Some people held the table steady and we took turns walking on the table and guess what...........the balloons didn't burst. Amazing! Ms. Fahy explained that balloons can hold a heavy weight if the weight is spread out over a large surface area. When the balloon flattens out enough, the pressure of the air inside the balloon equals the pressure of the desk on the balloon and the balloon can support the weight of the desk.
Finally in the afternoon Fireman Pete came to talk to us about fire safety. We went outside to see the fire engine, Pete turned on the alarm and the hose and showed us all the equipment kept in the fire engine.
What a super day!
